DARREN WATERSTON
New Paintings
September 2 - October 11, 1997
The Charles Cowles Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of
recent paintings by DARREN WATERSTON from September 2 through October 11,
1997. The Gallery is located at 420 West Broadway between Prince and Spring
Streets and the hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 6pm.
In his third solo exhibition at the Charles Cowles Gallery, DARREN
WATERSTON continues his exploration of nature through romantic and
spiritual imagery. WATERSTON's
unique vision is realized in paint by combining the literal with the abstract;
his deft rendering skills mix with expressionistic strokes and atmospheric hues
to create transcendent environments. Whether depicting a moody landscape or an
idealized Kurdish garden, WATERSTON's paintings evoke a reverence of the
organic. His use of earth tones, bee's wax, and wood panels intensify the
timeless quality of the paintings, while his self-conscious mark making is
clearly modern.
DARREN WATERSTON has exhibited extensively throughout the United States.
His work is in major public and private collections including the Los Angeles
County Museum of Art and the Microsoft Corporation, Redmond, Washington.
