Darren Waterston
October 20 - November 24, 2001

WATERSTON explores the visceral both in palette and theme. Hints of blood vessels, intestines and platelets swim through a plasmatic environment like specimens trapped on a microscope slide. This bodily landscape is a contrast to his more literal vistas of years past. WATERSTON expounds on the power of organic forms and ambience to communicate the depths of spirituality. The overwhelming corporality of these works is held in balance by the beauty of his technique and unique vision.
The first monograph of WATERSTON's work will be released in conjunction with this exhibition. Published by St. Ann's Press, this volume includes an essay by Benjamin Weissman and three sonnets by Amy Gerstler as well as 63 color plates and can be purchased for $65. A special slipcased edition of 60 includes a hand-colored etching and is available for $850.
