Howard Ben Tré
December 1, 2001 - January 12, 2002

Internationally known for his pioneering work in cast glass, HOWARD BEN TRÉ continues his exploration into the formal and aesthetic qualities of this sculptural medium in his exhibition at Charles Cowles Gallery. A long fascination with ancient architecture, antiquated machine parts and spiritual forms continues to influence BEN TRÉ's oeuvre. This exhibition expands on his evolving series including Columns, Benches, and Wrapped Forms.
BEN TRÉ's technical innovations have extended his mastery of glass and allowed him to cast sculptures on an unprecedented scale, which can survive the rigors of outdoor installation. By combining metal and stone with the glass, BEN TRÉ has created a dialogue between opacity and translucence, mass and immateriality.
